2013 September – Leigh H. - Focused Listening Evening

MUSIC:

(1) The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Axis: Bold As Love.

1968 Polydor LP (original Australian pressing).

Playing time 40 minutes.

We’ve all heard of Jimi Hendrix, but when was the last time you listened to a whole Hendrix album from beginning to end?

Listening to this music 45 years on you appreciate just how creative and poetic Hendrix really was.

There are a few clicks and pops on this LP, but the sound is great.

I prefer it to my 1997 remastered CD.

(2) Die Profundis – German Baroque Cantatas.

Music of Schütz, Tunder, Bruhns, Weckman and Strungk.

Maria Zedelius (soprano), Michael Schopper (bass), Musica Antiqua Köln, directed by Reinhard Goebel.

1986 Archiv Produktion LP (digital recording).

Playing time (Side 1 only) 29 minutes.

Beautiful, austere North German early baroque music.

You may not be familiar with this genre but it is well worth a listen.

Excellent performance and recording.
